Six District 9 Girls’ Basketball Players Named All-State

ALTOONA, Pa. – Six District 9 players were named to the Sports Writers’ Pennsylvania Girls’ All-State basketball teams Friday with three each on the Class AA and Class A teams.

In Class AA, Cranberry’s Emily Merryman, the leading scorer in District 9 this year, was named second-team All-state, while LeeAnn Gibson, the top player for the D9 Class AA champion Karns City Gremlins as well as Redbank Valley’s Brooke Hinderliter were named to the third team.

The Class A teams show All American Awards & Engraving/D9Sports.com Player of the Year Madison Johnson of

Keystone and Port Allegany’s Becca Lathrop named second-team All-State, while Clarion’s Maci Thornton was a third-team choice.

Merryman, Gibson, Hinderliter, Johnson and Thornton were all first-team All American Awards & Engraving/D9Sports.com selections, while Lathrop was second-team choice.

NOTES – Sports Writers from around the state nominated and voted on the teams, which were released by the Associated Press Friday.
