Port girls can’t overcome slow start in loss to Vincentian Academy

BRIDGEVILLE, Pa. – By the time Port Allegany figured out it could play with WPIAL champion Vincentian Academy it was too late.

The Lady Gators fell behind by 17 at the end of the first quarter, and despite playing the Royals even the rest of the way dropped a 53-36 decision in the opening round of the PIAA Class A playoffs Saturday at Chartiers Valley High School.

Vincentian Academy led 20-3 at the end of the first quarter and 32-11 at halftime before Port Allegany outscored the Royals 14-12 in the third quarter and 11-9 in the fourth.

Becca Lathrop finished with a game-high 23 points for the Lady Gators, and finished her career with 1,175 career points.

Brenna Wise paced Vincentian Academy with 19 points with Torrieonna Cash adding 13.

Port finished the season 23-2, while Vincentian Academy moves to 23-3.
