District 9 moves Venango Catholic-Keystone Girls’ Class A Semifinal Game to Cranberry

BROCKWAY, Pa. – District 9 chairman Jim Manners, in an e-mail to District 9 media and schools Monday afternoon, announced the Keystone-Venango Catholic District 9 Class A girls’ semifinal game originally scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Kane High School has been moved to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cranberry High School.

In addition, the Clarion-Port Allegany game scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kane will now start at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kane.

While there was no official word as to why the changes were made, social media has exploded since Saturday’s announcement of the site of the Keystone-Venango Catholic game. The school’s are located 20 miles apart but would have had to drive 53 miles for Keystone and 61 miles for Venango Catholic to play at a the high-school venue in Kane presumably because District 9 wanted to have a Class A girls’ semifinal doubleheader – the other three semifinals – Boys’ Class A, Girls’ Class AA, Boys’ Class AA are all being played as doubleheaders at Clarion University’s Tippin Gym, the site of the District 9 championship games this weekend as well, which has a seating capacity not matched by any other gym in District 9.
