Ridgway boys get defensive in win over Cameron County

ST. MARYS – Ridgway’s defense was too much for Cameron County to handle, as the Elkers knocked over the Red Raiders 47-21 in the District 9 Class A boys’ quarterfinals Friday night in St. Marys.

Ridgway avenged a loss to Cameron County back in December when the Red Raiders Dylan Clingan hit a 75-foot buzzer beat to knock off the Elkers by holding Cameron County to 40 points below its season average.

The Elkers used a 14-2 second-quarter advantage to build a 20-5 halftime lead and the extended that advantage to 26-10 at the end of the third quarter.

Jeremy Breier led all scorers with 21 points for Ridgway with Josh Roselli and Joe Horning each scoring nine.

Nate Sestina and Clingan each had nine for Cameron County, which only had three players score.

The Elkers will take on Clarion-Limestone in the semifinals next week at a site, date and time to be determined.

NOTES – Cameron County’s 21 points ties for the lowest point output in a District 9 boys’ playoff game since 2010. Union scored 21 in a 63-21 loss to Johnsonburg last year.
