ECC boys rally past DCC to move into AML Title Game

ST. MARYS – Trailing by six at halftime, Elk County Catholic showed why it’s the top seed in the upcoming District 9 Class A boys’ playoffs outscoring DuBois Central Catholic by 15 in the second half to advance to the AML title game with a 55-46 win over the visiting Cardinals in a conference semifinals contest Friday night in St. Marys.

ECC (21-2) trailed 25-19 at halftime but doubled its point output in the third quarter alone outscoring the Cardinals (15-6), losers of two straight, 19-11 in the quarter to take a 38-36 lead. The Crusaders then finished off DCC with a 17-10 fourth-quarter advantage.

Mitchell Struble led all scorers with 16 points for ECC, while Brandon Schlimm added 14 and Cory Huff 13.

Dan Aucker paced DCC with 11 points but was the lone Cardinal in double digits.

ECC will take on Johnsonburg in the AML Title Game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Marys High School.
