Johnson leads Keystone girls past Redbank Valley

KNOX – Madison Johnson had 24 points, six steals and four rebounds to lead Keystone to a 64-41 win over Redbank Valley in KSAC South girls’ basketball action Friday night in Knox.

Johnson scored nine of her points during a 16-6 Keystone run to start the second half that helped the Lady Panthers ward off a comeback attempt by Redbank Valley, which was down 21-0 in the first quarter before getting within eight, 28-20, at halftime.

Keystone’s defense was the difference in the game with the Lady Panthers full-court press causing 33 Redbank Valley turnovers which turned into 32 Keystone points.

That included nine Redbank Valley giveaways leading to 14 Lady Panther points in the game’s first five minutes helping Keystone take the 21-0 lead.

But the Lady Bulldogs fought back ending the first quarter on a 7-3 run then outscoring Keystone 13-4 in the second quarter behind seven points from Brooke Hinderliter, who finished with a team-high 17.

Keystone, though, used the run to start the second half to build the lead back to 18, 49-31, heading to the fourth quarter and then outscored Redbank Valley 15-10 in the final eight minutes.

Amber Hess added 15 points for Keystone with Shayla Chapman adding nine.

Emma Kennemuth chipped in seven points and Becca Daugherty six for Redbank Valley.

Keystone improved to 7-2 overall, 2-1 KSAC South win the win while Redbank dropped to 6-3, 2-2.
