Locations for Nov. 22-23 Football Playoff Games Announced

The locations for the football playoff games involving District 9 teams Nov. 22-23 have been announced.

The Class A Championship game between Redbank Valley and Clarion will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at DuBois’ Mansell Park. The location was chosen despite it being 40 miles away from both schools, which are 16 miles apart, for a couple of reasons according to District 9 football chairman Bob Tonkin. One being the turf field and secondly because the more seemingly logical choice of Clarion University’s Memorial Stadium is Clarion’s home field and Redbank Valley officials didn’t want to play there.

“We said in August the game would be played at a neutral field,” Tonkin said. “We asked Redbank Valley if they would play at Memorial Stadium, but the administration didn’t want to play there.”

There is precedent set for Clarion playing a District 9 title game at Memorial Stadium. In 2005, Coudersport beat the Bobcats at the stadium. In that game, Clarion was the visiting team and was on the visiting sideline.

In Class AA PIAA playoffs, Karns City will travel to Northern Bedford to face Chestnut Ridge in the opening round at 7 p.m. Friday, while in Class AAA, Clearfield will take on Jersey Shore in the PIAA first round at DuBois’ Mansell Stadium at 7 p.m. Friday.

Keep the Clarion Redbank game in Clarion County!! Union or C-L would be a better choice to play the game….
