District 9 Class A Playoff Scenarios Broken Down

Three things happened Thursday to bring a tad bit more clarity to the District 9 Class A playoff race and seeding.

First, and probably most important, Coudersport at 4-5 has declared that it won’t enter the playoff field regardless of whether or not Union or Ridgway loses, which would have made Coudersport a playoff team.

This much is known. If both Ridgway and Union win, both will participate in the postseason. Even if Union loses, Golden Knights head coach Dave Louder indicated Thursday night that his team will still go to the playoffs. It is unknown whether or not Ridgway would participate with a loss.

Secondly, Smethport and Redbank Valley mutually decided not to play their game Friday, and per PIAA By-Laws the contest is now declared a no contest leaving Redbank Valley at 6-3 and Smethport 5-4, which will clarify seedings a bit.

Two different seeding scenarios exist in Class A, one with Sheffield winning the AML Title Game and the other with Sheffield losing that game. We will now break down the two scenarios.

Note that all seedings are unofficial based on rules provided to D9Sports.com by the District 9 committee. Finally decisions on all seedings, lie with the District 9 committee.

SHEFFIELD WINS AML TITLE GAME

If Sheffield wins the AML Title game, three other games play a role in the seeding: Brockway at Moniteau, St. Joseph’s Academy at Ridgway and Cambridge Springs at Union.
