D9 Cross Country Championships run in Ridgway

RIDGWAY — Elk County Catholic’s Kennedy Weisner won her third title and the Lady Crusaders captured their 13th straight team championship by edging North Clarion, 54-55, for the Class A girls’ team title at Saturday’s District 9 Cross Country Championships held at Grandinetti Elementary School.

Weisner crossed the line in windy and cold conditions in 19:21.5, 30 seconds ahead of teammate and runner-up Victoria Dippold. North Clarion’s Jill Wallace was third in 20:21.

Both Elk County Catholic and North Clarion will send their teams to next Saturday’s PIAA Championships in Hershey as well as the top 10 runners not on those teams. That group extended to the top-16 overall finishers:

Shannon Quaill, A-C Valley; 14. Liz Tanner, Smethport; 15. Ellen Kibbe, Northern Potter; 16. Kiersten Slater, Smethport.

Other races:

Class A Boys

Kane’s Chris Hunt won the 5K race in 16:50, eight seconds ahead of Coudersport’s Gabe Trimbur and Northern Potter won the team title with 53 points, 24 ahead of runner-up Kane’s 77.

The top-10 non-team qualifying runners extended to the 19th overall finisher. Kane and Northern Potter send their entire lineup to states.

Class AA Girls

Punxsutawney’s Juliann Boddorf won the race in 20:19.3, 20 seconds ahead of runner-up Claire Mikesell of Clearfield. Bradford topped Punxsutawney for the team title, 48-57.

The top five runners not on Bradford also advance to states, which went down through the top six finishers: 1. Boddorf, 2. Mikesell, 3. Makaila Banka, Bradford, 4. Ala Small, Punxsutawney, 5. Shelby Schreiber, St. Marys, 6. Kristi Fox, Clearfield.

Class AA Boys

Punxsutawney’s Bo Dinger won the race in 17:28.7 for a 31-second win over Clearfield’s Alec Freeman. The Chucks also won the team title, outpointing Bradford, 35-44.

The top five runners not on Punxsutawney also advanced to states, which meant the top seven runners head to Hershey: 1. Dinger, 2. Freeman, 3. Tyler Nuzzo, Bradford, 4. Seth Burkett, Punxsutawney, 5. Justin Keller, Bradford, 6. Dawson Ambrose, Bradford, 7. Mitchell Schreiber, St. Marys.
